Live figures: Northern Ireland HSC Trusts via nidirect (OGL v3.0) · A&E data for September 2026, published 8 October 2026
Live A&E waiting times
Current emergency department and urgent care waits where the NHS publishes them in a form we are allowed to reuse, with links to hospitals that publish their own live figures. Everywhere else we show the latest official monthly statistics.
If it's an emergency call 999. Waits are estimates from the hospital/health board; not medical advice. Live waits change quickly and you will be seen in order of clinical need, not arrival time. If it is not an emergency, NHS 111 online or calling 111 can tell you where to go, including urgent treatment centres, which often have shorter waits. Call 999 or go to A&E for life-threatening emergencies such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding or signs of a stroke.
Northern Ireland: live emergency department waits
The Health and Social Care Trusts publish the median time patients currently in each emergency department have waited from arrival to being seen by a clinician, updated through the day on nidirect. Northern Ireland also runs Phone First for some urgent care units: phone before you travel.

England: hospitals that publish their own live waits
NHS England does not publish a national live A&E feed. Some trusts show current waits on their own websites. Their terms do not allow us to copy the figures, so we link to them instead. For every trust in England, see the monthly A&E league table.

Scotland
Scottish health boards do not publish a live A&E feed we can reuse. Public Health Scotland releases weekly emergency department statistics every Tuesday, and we show the monthly figures for each board on the A&E page. For urgent care in Scotland, call NHS 24 on 111.
Wales
NHS Wales’ My A&E Live service is not currently showing waiting times; it directs people to NHS 111 Wales. Cardiff and Vale and Powys run Phone First for minor injuries and urgent care. We show monthly StatsWales figures for each health board on the A&E page.
How live figures work
- We fetch each source at most every 10 minutes and show the time the source says it was last updated.
- If a source stops responding, we show the last copy we saved with a warning, and if that is more than 3 hours old we say so.
- Figures are medians or typical waits for people already in the department. Your own wait depends on how urgent your condition is.
- We only reproduce live figures where the publisher’s terms allow reuse. See data sources.
Frequently asked questions
Are these A&E waiting times live?
Northern Ireland figures are live: they are published by the Health and Social Care Trusts on nidirect and refreshed here at least every 10 minutes, with the source’s own “last updated” time shown. Other figures on this site are official monthly or quarterly statistics.
What does the Northern Ireland wait mean?
It is the median time that patients currently waiting have spent from arrival to being seen by a clinician. Half have waited less and half longer. The most urgent patients are always seen first.
Why are there no live waits for my hospital in England?
NHS England does not publish live A&E data. Some trusts publish their own, which we link to, but their copyright terms do not allow us to reproduce the numbers.
Should I go to A&E or call 111?
If it is not an emergency, NHS 111 online or calling 111 can tell you where to go, including urgent treatment centres, which often have shorter waits. Call 999 or go to A&E for life-threatening emergencies such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding or signs of a stroke.
